With 1,250 species of fish, 250 types of coral and some excellent wrecks, the Red Sea is a haven for underwater diving. This has been the case for a good while now, as the number of specialist clubs installed at Hurghada testify, this latter being the other big Red Sea resort, found on the other side of the Strait of Gubal. Uncovered in the 1970s, it has alas become a victim of its own success, promoters taking advantage of the fact that most tourists had their heads under the water to do whatever they liked.
For a short while now, construction permits and urbanisation rules have put the brakes on this willy nilly development. Off the coast, the Giftun and Ramada Islands and the innumerable reefs along with their ship wrecks will delight experienced divers and beginners alike. Enthusiasts of architecture of a bygone era can visit the monasteries of Saint Anthony and Saint Paul, the oldest in Egypt. The most courageous will take the day trip to either Luxor or Cairo. Here, put in what i have already done from Alexandria
Hurghada in figures :
Around 150 hotels
160 diving schools
500 leisure boats
0ver 200 diving boats
The largest beach resort in Egypt
